New 2027 Energy Efficiency Law

What SMEs in Buckinghamshire Need to Know Big changes are coming for all businesses in Buckinghamshire. From 2027, all commercial properties will be legally required to meet minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) — and if you are a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), this law could directly affect your bottom line. At Chiltern Solar, we are here to help local businesses understand what’s changing and how solar energy can be part of the solution.

What Is the 2027 MEES Regulation?
From April 2027, landlords and commercial property owners must ensure their buildings meet an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of at least C. This is part of the government’s wider push to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This requirement will apply to both new and existing tenancies, meaning landlords must ensure all let commercial properties comply with the EPC C standard or hold a valid exemption by this date.

If your business owns or rents a commercial property with a rating lower than C (currently anything rated D, E, F, or G), you will need to take action — or risk fines, reduced property value, and even being unable to legally lease your premises.

Why Should SMEs Care?
For SMEs, this law is not just a bureaucratic hurdle — it is a chance to save money, improve energy efficiency, and show your customers that you are serious about sustainability.

Key reasons to act now:
• Avoid penalties: Non-compliant buildings will not meet legal letting requirements.
• Cut energy bills: Energy-efficient systems mean long-term cost savings.
• Boost your green credentials: Consumers are favouring sustainable businesses.
• Increase property value: An improved EPC makes your asset more attractive.

How Solar Energy Can Help
One of the fastest, least obtrusive, and most cost-effective ways to improve your EPC rating is to install a solar PV system.

Solar panels can:
✅ Reduce your building’s carbon footprint
✅ Cut electricity bills by up to 70%
✅ Improve EPC ratings — often enough to meet MEES targets
✅ Future-proof your property against further legislation

At Chiltern Solar, we have helped many businesses across Buckinghamshire take control of their energy use with tailored solar solutions — and we are ready to help you do the same.

Start Preparing Now
2027 might feel a long way off — but when it comes to solar installations, assessments, and grant applications, time flies. Starting early gives you more options and helps spread the investment over time.

We are currently offering free EPC assessments and solar feasibility surveys for local businesses — so you can find out exactly what is needed to meet the new standard.

Let’s Talk About Your Energy Strategy
If you are a business owner or landlord in Buckinghamshire, don’t wait for the 2027 deadline to creep up on you.

Get in touch with Chiltern Solar today to book your consultation and let us make sure your property is future-ready, compliant — and more energy efficient than ever.
